Project Description

The Whakamaramara house is a “country lodge” style home situated on the banks of a rural stream, 25Km west of Tauranga.  The rural location with the stream at the end of the garden provides a beautiful outlook from the new home.

Built in cedar and stone the owners wanted to be able to see the natural surroundings from all the living and bedroom spaces.  To achieve this a two story central galley was designed from which the rest of the house flows out.  The use of raked windows two stories high on both sides of the central galley creates a spacious and grand entrance that draws visitors through the house and out to the large decks overlooking the grounds and stream.

The Fairview 35mm Architectural Flat Faced frame was used for the raking windows and all the French and Bifold doors.  Double glazed Low E Argon filled glass was used throughout the home to retain warmth in the colder months.

A number of oversized fixed pane windows feature in the house and the Fairview Architectural Suite was used to ensure strength and longevity.

The owners expressed their desire for continuous flow from inside to outside.  This was achieved in a number of ways, including the dining room 6 panel 90 degree corner bifold door.  The panels stack back to each external wall and the head and sill are recessed to disappear when the door is open.  Tasman Aluminium built four 90 degree corner bifold windows for the upstairs bedrooms and downstairs family room.  When these windows are open, you can literally reach out and touch nature.

To achieve the country lodge feel, deep American Oak liners were used throughout the home and hardware was sourced for its unique style to create the lodge character.  Timber doors with glass inserts were put into Fairview aluminium frames which gave a warm and natural charm to the inside of the home.

Designing and installing this project required a high level of knowledge and skill from the team at Tasman Aluminium.  Both the residential and commercial teams worked on the project and the owners were very happy with the way the team overcame any obstacles and finished the project to a very high standard.

Summary of merits

  • Design, detail and installation of the joinery creates the feel of a grand country lodge
  • The 90 degree bifolding windows and door with recessed head and sill create the inside outside flow desired by the owners
  • The mixture of aluminium and timber throughout the joinery enhances the natural rural feel
  • The 35mm Architectural Flat face frame gives a modern look to the joinery and the electric cow powder blends seamlessly with the timber and stone cladding.

Testimonial

To whom it may concern,

We employed Tasman Aluminium to make our windows for the house we have just recently finished. The house is in no way the  "norm" with big glass panels and over-sized bifold corner doors and windows. No design was ever a problem for Tasman and they completed our windows and doors as per our vision. We never heard "you can't do that".

Tasman has gone above and beyond our expectations to back up their product with service, with the few minor issues we have had. They were prompt and efficient in correcting the problem. We have ended up with a house we are proud of and our windows are a key feature of it.

We would recommend Tasman Aluminium to anyone building large or small. Thanks again for helping to create our dream home.

Yours  sincerely
